Type Locality and Naming

In the Kyzylkum desert. A.A. Yaminov, 1950 (515, p.761). Typical sections in the middle course of the Amudarya River. Due to three suites division, the term stratigraphic name is not used.

Synonym: Kyzylkumskaya Suite, Кызылкумская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Below, whitish, spotted clays and marls; Above, various-grained sands, sandstones, conglomerates, at the top, brown loams. Thickness 20-50m.

A.I. Aynemer et al. (41) divided the Kyzylkum Fm into three suites: Saduvar Fm (Sadyvar Fm; clays, marls), Tashakyr Fm (sands, sandstones, conglomerates), and the brown loams were assigned to the Quaternary Sabatlyn Fm (444).

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Lies with erosion on the deposits of the Dengizkul Fm, Paleogene and Upper Cretaceous.

Upper contact

Overlain by Quaternary deposits.

Regional extent

Kyzylkum and eastern part of the Karakum.
